After more than a year of investigations, the Hartford police charged Dabate with his wife's murder, tampering with physical evidence, and making false statements to the police. He is currently out on bail but due to appear in court on Friday, April 28.
This is not the first time that data from a health tracker has been cited in a murder case. In the case of a 2016 death, police relied on the victim's Apple Watch data to disprove the claims of her accused killer. In 2017, Fitbit data(Opens in a new tab) contradicted a man's story about the death of his wife. Apple heath-app data was also used as evidence following a 2016 murder(Opens in a new tab) in Germany.
Fitbit contradicts husband’s story of wife’s murder – police
Summary: In another novel use of the Internet of Things, police in Connecticutused data from a murdered woman's Fitbit as evidence to contradicther husband's account of an attack and to bring charges against him.The husband claimed that his wife walked only a short distance inthe time before the attack, but her Fitbit registered 10 timesas many steps.
It seems the registration of the fitbit contains entries that originated after the supposed time of death. That requires an explanation, just as all other tracks and traces found. At the least it casts doubts on the story told by the husband. 2ff7e9595c
